It started as little things like dilated pupils and picking at their skin and hair. But then it turned into problems at school, extreme mood swings at home and unhealthy physical changes. You don’t even recognize your teen anymore because of their methamphetamine abuse.
Being a parent of a child addicted to meth feels heartbreaking and helpless. But beyond all the darkness, there is hope. At Kokua Recovery, we provide trusted and reliable meth rehab for teens that helps your adolescent heal and gives you the chance to restore the stability and happiness your family has lost.
Oftentimes, meth addiction isn’t the only thing plaguing your teen’s life – it’s just the most visible one. Underneath the surface is a traumatic experience or other mental health problem haunting your child and influencing their drug use.
At Kokua Recovery, we take a trauma-focused approach to treatment that leverages clinical and experiential interventions to try to reverse the damage your teen has experienced from meth and their underlying trauma or mental health problems.
Your teen will receive 42 hours a week of therapist-led interventions to help them recover from their addiction and trauma. This includes:
Your teen’s schedule will also include on-site school five days per week with our Academic Director and three nutritionist approved, home-cooked meals a day to help strengthen your child’s body and mind after addiction.
Our Kokua clients almost always have mental health and behavioral issues that accompany substance use disorders. Trauma is frequently, but not always, a driver for the mental health or substance use issues. The other driver of the substance use issues is a lack of executive functioning skills (underdeveloped empathy, interpersonal connection, and cause and effect thinking). We tackle these two issues in very specific ways. We are experts in healing the areas of the brain that are affected by these issues.
Twice a week, your teen will experience recreational activities like hiking in the mountains, white water rafting, skiing and much more. This kind of therapy serves as an outlet for your teen’s excitement and stress, and can become replacement activities for time periods that otherwise might be drug seeking. More importantly, adventure therapy is engineered to rewire the brain.
The current pattern with your teen is to feel stress at school and at home, and to seek substances to cope with the stress. At Kokua, we create a new pattern where we engineer the stress to be intense, but survivable. Your teen will work with a mentor to navigate the stress and learn successful outcomes. When we have this new pattern become the norm over months of interaction, the old patterns of arguing and running coupled with drug use go away.
Every other month, Kokua teens go to Guatemala to work with a non-profit that builds garden boxes for the local population. With these garden boxes, families can produce enough produce to sustain themselves indefinitely.
This gives your son or daughter the opportunity to participate in an incredible and fulfilling service project that will help them learn to control their impulses and grow into a mature, compassionate individual that doesn’t need drugs to live an exciting, passionate life.
Meth hasn’t won. Addiction hasn’t beaten you. There is hope for your teen and your family to recover and be whole again. If you’re ready to recover from meth addiction and trauma, contact us today to get started.
